Abstract

Winston Bridges came to the campus as an assistant professor of education in 1970. He taught primarily in the area of social foundations of education. When Dean Karen Spear departed for Colorado in June 1990, Bridges—then coordinator of the College of Education at USF St. Petersburg—accepted an appointment to serve as interim dean. Bridges continued the focus on interdisciplinary studies started by deans Lowell Davis and Karen Spear. Shortly after H. William Heller arrived in the fall of 1992, Bridges was appointed associate dean. Bridges served as the chief academic officer on campus before his retirement in 2003, returning in August 2005 as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Bridges donated the newspapers in this collection in May 2006, shortly before his one-year appointment as Arts and Sciences Dean came to an end.
