Abstract
In the English Renaissance, many types of marriages existed, and the partners involved in each related to one another differently. This paper concentrates on the marriages of the nobility in the Renaissance. The literature of the era portrayed the formations of marriages and the everyday lives of the couples. Shakespeare's plays provide an ideal framework for looking at this, and chapters two and four discuss how he portrays married couples in his plays.
