Abstract

In this interactive session, presenters will share practical application tips and techniques for using educational technology to cultivate a critical thinkingbased and inclusive classroom.

Description

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our world of teaching and learning into an increasingly online format. Throughout this transformation, many students and teachers alike are finding it fun to experiment with using educational tools that are new to them, such as Flipgrid and Padlet. In this session we will demonstrate specific ways that these types of tools can be used in both online and face-to-face courses to create engaging and collaborative activities that foster students’ critical and creative thinking skills. Furthermore, we will illustrate how the use of these tools can play an integral role in fostering a deeper level of inclusion in the learning environment. The session will include an overview of some of these educational tools, a showcase of specific examples of how these tools can be integrated into activities that engage students from a variety of disciplines in critical and creative thinking, and an illustration of how these applications can also intentionally optimize inclusivity in the learning environment. Time will also be devoted to providing participants an opportunity to brainstorm techniques and activities to incorporate these tools into their own specific curriculum. Questions will be welcome throughout, and at the end of the session.
