Description

This presentation is based on a class project from the course Introduction to Design 1 (TPA3007.001F18) at the School of Theatre and Dance in Fall, 2018 at the University of South Florida Tampa. The exercise was created as a first approach to Costume Design. The Project was called Costume Design for the Art Exhibition People I Met which took place from October 4 to 16, 2018, and started with a guided visit to the exhibition of the same name -People I Met- by Argentinean artist Miki Kratsman at USF Contemporary Art Museum: http://www.usfcam.usf.edu/CAM/exhibitions/2018_8_Miki_Kratsman/Miki_Kratsman.html I will make a slideshow presentation to describe the project, and to explain the 5 most important stages of its development: 1. Museum guided visit and selection of 1 of the portraits from the art installation 2. Research: starting by collecting information provided at the exhibition. This stage continued in class, by finding information about the historic, social, and geographic context of the portraits 3. Creating a character: based on the information gathered 4. Creating a story for a group of 4 characters: the class was divided in 3 groups of 4. Each group created a story to connect the characters 5. Designing the costumes for each character: based on research, and according to the story. This step was followed by final presentation and critique. Next, I will talk about the resulting impact and the learning outcomes achieved. I will briefly explain how the project aligned with the course objectives. After the presentation, I will allow 8 to 10 minutes for questions and answers.
